What Magic: The Gathering is, briefly

Magic: The Gathering is the original trading card game — designed by Richard Garfield and published by Wizards of the Coast since 1993 — and the template every other game on this list borrowed some part of its structure from. Wizards releases three to four major expansions a year, each set on a different plane of the Magic multiverse, alongside Universes Beyond crossovers, Commander products, and a rotating cast of supplemental releases.

Lorwyn Eclipsed

Lorwyn Eclipsed is Magic's 109th expansion, released 23 January 2026, returning to the plane of Lorwyn — last visited in full seventeen years earlier, and split at the time into a bright Lorwyn and a corrupted Shadowmoor. Eclipsed merges the two: the tribal factions players remember — kithkin, boggarts, elves, faeries, giants — now exist in a single plane where light and dark have folded into each other, with new creature types and frames reflecting the merge rather than reprinting the original split. The set introduces vivid, an ability word tied to how many colours of permanent a player controls, and blight, a new keyword that places -1/-1 counters, alongside two ready-to-play Commander decks built to showcase both mechanics out of the box.

Play Booster box vs. single pack

Lorwyn Eclipsed ships under Wizards' current Play Booster format — a single booster type that replaced the old Draft/Set Booster split — sold as individual packs or a 30-pack booster box, in both English and Spanish print runs with identical contents. A 30-pack box is the unit distributors allocate at, which is also why box-level buyers get priority access when a set runs tight: pack-level stock usually depends on boxes being broken down by a retailer first, something we do not do to any product we sell.
